What is StoreFront 2000?

The following information is provided for RWebs.Net clients and others needing some additional help and tips to set up a StoreFront 2000 e-commerce web, either locally for initial development or on a live web host's server.

Note: the following information is intended to supplement and not replace that at the official StoreFront support site.

StoreFront 2000 (SF2K) is an e-commerce software package produced by LaGarde, Inc. StoreFront 2000 installs as an add-in to Microsoft FrontPage 2000, making it one of the easiest "shopping carts" to use right out of the box. In addition, it can be customized or modified to suite a client's special needs, as it is built using Microsoft's Active Server Pages technology.

StoreFront 2000 comes in two basic versions, Standard and Pro, the difference being that the Standard versions use a Microsoft Access 2000 (or 97) database, while the Pro versions use a Microsoft SQL Server database. In the following pages, a Standard version using an Access 2000 database will be assumed.

I first used the earliest version, StoreFront 98, to add a shopping cart and web store to an existing client's web site, and then upgraded to StoreFront 99 and finally StoreFront 2000, which added a remote data access client, making setup and management of a live web store even easier.

I provide ASP programming and web consulting services for clients working with StoreFront 2000 but I do not do graphical web design. I have done minor to very major customizations of SF2K sites and am currently involved in the beta-testing of future versions.

Despite all of its good qualities, StoreFront 2000 does require a properly configured web server, either local or live, to function properly. I hope these notes, help files and even a few tricks will help those having troubles setting up SF2K for the first time.

Again, the following notes, tips and tricks are intended to supplement the support information found at the StoreFront Support Site. Please be sure to review all of the help offered there, too.

I will try and keep this information up to date on a regular basis, however if you find any errors or have any comments about this information, please contact me at randy@rwebs.net. Thanks.
