I Can't Browse to my DSN

Some hosts implement a security option which prevents the FrontPage 2000 database connection tools from being able to browse or list the System DSNs installed on the server. In this case you can't select your own web's DSN as described in the SF2K instructions to create your connection to your database.

The simplest workaround for this is to create a connection directly to your database file, assuming it is located in the fpdb folder of your web, which is the default.

In FrontPage 2000 from Tools>Web Settings>Database, click Add, give the new connection a name or accept the default, then select the File or folder in the current web button and browse to the fpdb folder and select your SF2K database.

Click OK then select the new connection and Verify it, which actually rewrites the global.asa file with the connection information.

This will make your web's ASP files connect directly to your database and not use your System DSN, however, you will still need the DSN configured to use the SF2K client tools in the toolbar.

If for some reason you can't configure a System DSN on your host, say for a subweb used just to test new versions, you can use the direct db connection method to run the web, and if you own the HTML Admin Tool add-on, you can use it to configure and administer your store and products.
